CYCLO CROSS

The West Midlands Cyclo Cross league started last month. Joe and Holly Page are riding in the Youth and Under 12 categories. Gary Sutton and Ron Clews are flying the club colours in the Veteran races.

Dudley Grand Prix
Dan Staines claimed a well deserved 3rd place in the Dudley Grand Prix U14's on Saturday.
After 3rd place in the 500m time trial and 3rd again in the handicap sprint he clinched a two 2nd places in the 5 mile scratch and the Devil take the hindmost race.
In the final points race he took 1st , 4th and 3 rd on the sprint laps. Overall winner was Matt Bailey from Halesowen A & CC. Dan lost out by one point for 2nd placed to arch rival Tom Gregory also from Halesowen.
Callow End rider 12 year old Terry Chance rode consistently in the Freewheelers races taking a well deserved tactical win in the final 2 lap handicap.
In the main race series of the day, Ross Edgar of the Great Britain Team edged out Scot Marco Librizzi to take first prize. Triple world champion Jason Kenny, previous winner Matt Crampton and riders from Holland, Spain, S.Africa and Trinidad had by this time all been eliminated.

In the first 1 lap sprint race he lost by a bike length to Bradley Burbridge of Kettering CC. In the pursuit he rode against Bradley and after an even first lap Dan pulled away on each of the 3 last laps to win the event. Finally with one win each and both riding identical bikes, they faced each other in the distance scratch race, Bradley taking shelter for the first two laps, Dan then broke away and finished a dozen yards ahead to give him two victories and the U14 National British Schools Cycling Association Grasstrack championship.

Good Results at Castle Coomb
Well done to Holly Page on her 5th place in the Youth "C" Race won by Sam Lowe, Merlin Devt Squad. Good results also came from Daniel Staines and Joe Page 8th and 9th in the Youth "B" race won by Perry Bowater, Walsall Roads CC
