6th December

WMCCL rnd10 inc Midland X Champs

The Badderidge Park Course presented a great course and challenging conditions. The Start/Finish loop and bomb hole Sections had standing water on the grass. The Corners and wooded areas looked more like a Glastonbury Quagmire before the practise had finished.
Pammie Murray Hopkins posted the best placed Worcester St Johns rider with her hard fought for 7th
Dave Preece battled through the conditions on his single speed steed to finish 27th in the Seniors event.
In the Non Chamionship Under 8's Martin Allen overcame descending fears by tackling the larger bomb hole drops before discovering the Unders 8's-10's were riding an easier course.
He then escaped all the major crashes in the race, the first coming in less than 100 metres from the start to make his best start this season. The hill undid many riders with marshall's pulling bikes up while the riders slid backwards. Martin held on to post his best finish yet and gained his first medal "Better than Sweets" and biggest smile. Well until we reached the Cafe then Sweets were mentioned.
Congratulations to Ex Saints rider Joe Page, Who Scored a Siver medal in the Juniors race.

Thanks to Clinton Haywood for helping out with the Marshalling.

Pammie on her way to 7th.

Worcester News Road Race

Former Worcester St Johns rider, Simon Wilson (Arctic Premier RT), added his name to an illustrious list of winners of the Worcester News Road Race sponsored by Nemesis Active of Pershore. Wilson outsprinted his breakaway companions with the bunch rapidly closing in what was a thrilling finish to an exciting bike race.
A full field of 80 riders set out from Kempsey over 125km (6 laps) of the Kinnersley circuit. The race got off to a fast start with continuous attacking, and groups were unable to gain a significant advantage until approaching half distance when three small groups escaped and joined up to form a leading break of 11 riders. Joining Wilson, were Russell Falder (Mammoth RT), Colin Parry (VC Raphael), Andrew Magnier (Planet X), Ben Anstie (Chippenham & District Whlrs), George Rose (Abergavenny RC), Grant Bayton (Sports Beans/Wilier), Tony Gibb (MS TINA Clothing), plus local riders Dom Jelfs (Wyre Forest CC), Steve Dring and Adrian Bird (Team Echelon-Spiuk).
The gap on the bunch rose to 1 minute 20 seconds and with 20 miles to go, Bayton tried to break things up through the feed which prompted a period of attacking during which the gap over the bunch fell to under a minute. Racing through the finish to get the bell, the break had resumed working together and had 46 seconds advantage but coming into the long straight with three miles to go, the bunch could see their quarry in the distance.
Gibb forced the pace with Dring and Bayton going clear but at the bottom of the final climb, the break was back together for a sprint finish. The bunch had closed to within 50 metres and Jelfs was first to jump with Gibb, Wilson, Magnier and Bayton giving chase. As the hill kicked up, Gibb hit the front with 200 metres to go, but Wilson came past to take the victory from Gibb and Magnier. Tom Barras claimed 4th place as the bunch sprint enveloped the remaining breakaway riders in the final 200 metres.
Winning his 9th race of the season, Wilson was "really pleased" to win having been a former member of the promoting club, when at University in the City. Tony Gibb was gracious in defeat, pleased to record a result for his new team (MS Tina Clothing), an Italian clothing company, having taken a rest following the Tour Series to commentate on the Tour de France.

Solihull Crits Tudor Grange

Terry Chance and  Holly Page rode in great weather for the time of year at the new Solihull cycle circuit, which had 2 races for each age group. Holly's first race was the u14's where she stayed in the lead group of 4 riders that worked well together untill three quarters distance when it split and Holly came in 4th place and 2nd girl. Then Terry rode in the first u16race which was very fast from the start and rode well to finish 5th. The final race was u14 and u16 together but with half a lap head start for the u14 riders. Four of the u14 riders including Holly again worked well and held off the u16 riders untill 1/2 distance. James Locker Halesowen attacked and stayed away to win and Holly came in behind the chasing group to get 4th u14 and 2nd Girl again.

Club Kit

Unfortunately i will be unable to carry on organising the club kit. As there is now not enough time for me to place an order pay for it and wait for it to arrive.I have just sold my house (subject to contract) which means i will be going to Canada as planned in August. biggrin

So the club will now need someone to organise and order kit from the supplier Velotex in South Africa. All the ground work has been done by me and with one successful order carried out it is going to be rather an easy task for whoever takes the role on. No sorting out of suppliers, designs and colours etc etc etcconfuse to worry about. All they would have to do is get as many of each item as possible to get the best price, must be willing to pay for it all via Credit Card(safest option) preferably a VISA/Master card.get items delivered to your door and then distribute it among those who purchased it easy really.smile

Some interest has been shown but as of yet no one has actually placed an order. So if anyone wants the job contact me for the suppliers details and i will go through the process with you..biggrin

Stu, We owe you a big thanks for taking on a difficult job, and wish you all the best for your new life in Canada.

Weston-Super-Mare Seafront Criteriums

Holly Page rode in the youth race in warm sunny conditions on the sea front which had closed roads for the day’s races. Holly had a good start but the pace was very quick from the off and the race broke up into 3 groups after the first lap. Holly caught the small group ahead of her and after a few deep breaths attacked them and went off in pursuit of the next group, she didn’t manage to catch them by the end of the race but rode strongly to finish 3rd Girl. The Winner was Jess Weiskowski from Halesowen who out-sprinted his 2 breakaway companions one being Holly’s brother Joe who was 3rd.
