23rd May

National 10 mile TT Championship

Fantastic weather greeted riders at Alcester from all over the country. Holly Page after no training for 3 weeks due to a chest infection, rode well to win her age catagory with 27.38, adding another national medal to her collection. The Junior title race was won by 17 year-old Oliver Rossi  (PCA Ciclos Uno), a team medallist back in 2008 when he was with the Glendene CC. Rossi’s 20-29 “a personal best” gave him the title by six seconds from Conor Dunne (Glendene CC), silver medallist for the second year running.

Local rider Tom Stockdale (Team Qoroz) took the final individual medal with a third place 20-51. Five seconds slower were Alexander Murison (Glendene CC), Tom Lackenby (I-ride.co.uk) and Jack Green (VC St Raphael) all on 20-56.

The mens race saw Michael Hutchinson’s winning in 18-37 which gave him a 32.229 miles an hour average, over a mile an hour better than his closest rival World Omnium Champion Ed Clancy, who finished with a 43 seconds deficit after leading the eventual champion over the first couple of miles.

Julia Shaw (Utag Yamaha.com) won the womens race. At half distance she was 17 seconds up on Sarah Storey with 9-52 and at the finish her 20-31 gave her a winning margin of 27 seconds.

22nd May

Sontonia CC 10 Time Trial - P613 (Andover)

The Hottest day of the year brought an all time PB for Paul Castle and a 3 year best for Mark Allen.
Local and regular riders report that conditions with a stiff 15mph NE headwind on the longest leg (5.66 Miles)were less than ideal with the course running up to a minute slower than best conditions. Given the times posted and the number of PB's on the day that was a mind boggling statment.
Starting at No. 46 Mark Allen charged down the hill from the start quickly passing numbers 45 and 46 before the turn and finishing in 23.45. The time is 2.30 better than any 10 so far in 2010 and the 2nd fastest ever time.
However Paul Castle off at No. 76 though did the best WStJCC ride of the day posting an all time PB of 23.11. With a slow day for the regulars and Pauls improvement the time has real potential for a top 20 finish.

21st May

FNTL Week 3.
Not only did the Temperature go up but so did the Competition as the night slowly cooled the pace only increased.
Martin Allen took to the track for the first time in the under 8's (freewheeler B) class. Martin rode well finishing all 3 events in the bunch and enjoying the night out.

Ringside notes are differing from the provisional report with the results missing 6th for Tony Horton in the 8 Lap scratch. If the provisional report stands it means that first points go to Mark Allen with a 4th place in the 800m Handicap Heat 1 (Ringside has 5th). Tony Horton in Heat 2 went out to even the odds bringing home 6th and his first points of the season.

Mark Allen then bailed out for a 10 TT on the Saturday. Leaving Tony to fly the flag.

Tony rode hard in the Vets+Ladies Points taking a breakaway for the first sprint. before the A-Cats put the power down and broke the bunch up over the next 6 laps.

The last ride of the night was a sizzler with the competition between Jacob Tipper and Dom Jelfs coming to the fore. Tipper went from the gun with a 2nd Halesowen rider and for first 20 laps the pace was running at 29-30 mph on the 49 or 50x15 gears that's 110 rpm for 10 miles! The race was over in just 21min 11sec.

May 14th

Halesowen FNTL

This year FNTL has been marked with cool, cloudy and wind swept nights with fortunately the lightest of showers passing without comment.
Fortunes have been mixed with the more consistent performances coming from Tony Horton. The Pack is of course weighted to the Halesowen Club with 50% of those riding all belonging to the purple army.

Week 1
8 Lap Scratch.
Mark Allen Went from the Gun expecting a fast race, but instead of leading a pack found himself 1/2 a lap up and Time Trialing away, Tony marked the chases and bided his time for the sprint. Mark was caught after 7 1/2 laps with 250yds to go and promptly went straight to the back. Tony sprinted well, finishing well up in the pack just missing out on points.
9 Lap Points.
A mixed race with Mark taking 1 point on the first sprint. Not enough to score league points but good sign for the season.
Tony was working hard and following all the faster wheels but the Purple army of Halesowen made sure that the points firmly went their way.
25 Lap Scratch. A&B Cats
Tony up as the only rider held on to the pack finishing in the bunch.

Week 2
A slight change of order to the schedule.
Vets and Ladies 9 lap Scratch with Tony slightly miss timing his move to finish 7th.
A+B Seniors Mark held on to the bunch in a very fast race (Avs 28.5mph) coming over the top a slowing bunch with 300yds to go leading the sprint out before finishing 10th as the A Cats wound up the pace.

4 Lap Scratch both riders working well in bunch and finishing in the Pack.

Devil take the hindmost. Mark caught out with a very fast start from the gun by a purple army thinking it was a Team time trial was the first casualty with Tony hanging in for a few more laps. Halesowen topped the board again.

20 Lap (5mile) A+B Cats. The race was over in barely 11 minutes B-Cat riders were being shell like peas as some laps passed at over 30mph. By the end the simple attrition saw Mark Allen blow up and watch a pack ride away in the Sprint with Tony managing to hold a wheel and come in 13th just 3 places off some points.
